Soda vs. Pop

Can you explain this phenomena?

  1. That was great! Everyone always looks at me like I'm nuts here when I call it pop...guess it's because I come from Washington!

  2. I loved the map! I always wondered what the regional divide was for the terms. I did know that it was called Coke in the south because I had a roommate from Mississippi. It's was very confusing the first few times she asked us if we wanted a "Coke." :)I think most of the time I call it soda pop, but sometimes it's one or the other. It really just depends on the day.

  4. I'm pleased to report that after having only lived in the South for just under a year, my Western wife is referring to sodas as Coke now.
